Decorative inlays inlay kits
This is the 5th year we've donated a wreath to the Festival of Trees in Boise. This years wreath has the following hand made ornaments on it. All ornaments YOU can easily build too!!!
One set of ornaments was made by inlaying Cocobolo into Yellow Heart. The second set was made by filling the inlay void with epoxy filled with red glitter and glow in the dark powder.
Snoopy was inlaid into a piece of curly Walnut. Snoopy was cut from curly Maple. The ear and nose is Wenge. The dog house roof is Cocobolo while the side of the house is Purple Heart. Finally the stocking is made from Red Heart and Maple.
The lights were made by mixing epoxy with glitter and glow in the dark powder. The wires and Snoopy's eye were drawn in using oil based markers.
Ruddy was inlaid into a piece of Birds Eye Maple. The nose and inner ear were cut from Red Heart. I used Lacewood for the muzzle. Cocobolo was used for the antlers. Maple and Wenge for the eye.
As for Ruddy's face and ear I used a piece of old growth Sequoia. This wood came from a tree that was living when Columbus got off his boat in the Bahamas. I got lucky when a slab of this material fell into my lap!!!
Clarice was made by inlaying woods into a Walnut base. The face and ear was cut from curly Maple. The eye was made from Purple Heart and Maple. The nose is Wenge on the top and Lacewood on the bottom. The neck was cut from Rosewood and the bow from Canary wood.
Yukon was inlaid into a piece of Canary wood. The nose was cut from Birds Eye Maple. The ear muffs and hat ball from Yellow Heart. The stocking cap is Purple Heart. His face was cut from a low grain pattern area of Maple. His mouth was Red Heart.
And to be honest I don't have a clue as to what type of wood I used for his beard and Mustache. I once bought a random pack of wood slices and this wood was in there.
Santa was made by inlaying woods into a curly Walnut base. His hat and mouth were cut from Red Heart. The face from curly Maple. His beard was cut from a low grain pattern section of Maple. The eyebrows and mustache were cut from Birds Eye Maple.
I used epoxy with blue glitter for the eyes and epoxy mixed with white glitter for the hat banding. I should have used more glitter in the mix to make it stand out a bit more. Oh well... live and learn! :)
